HAP-Lewis also administers an NYS Rent Supplement Program contracted through Lewis County DSS. This program is very similar to Section 8, but broadens eligibility to include certain people who would be unable to access a Section 8 voucher; this could include hard-to-house populations such as lifetime registered sex offenders, consumers with certain past drug convictions, those who owe substantial arrears to Section 8, as well as undocumented immigrants.

Helps low income families purchase a home of their own and receive assistance in paying the mortgage payment (up to 15 years of the loan). The payments are based on the family income. The utilities, insurance, maintenance savings, and taxes are all considerations when calculating the payments. The home must be a single family home. It can be located anywhere in Jefferson or Lewis Counties and there are several organizations and financial institutions that have programs that can combine with this service.

Kinney Drugs houses a medication disposal station for unused and expired medication. Accepted medications: prescriptions (schedule II-V controlled and non-controlled substances), prescription ointments, vitamins, prescription patches, pet medications, over-the-counter medications. Not accepted: needles, inhalers, aerosol cans, thermometers, lotions, liquid, hydrogen peroxide.
