This 10-month program results in NYS certification that is transferable to most states and offers access to financial assistance. A Support Broker is a professional who educates the person and family on Self-Directed service options, and assists the person in developing a Self Direction budget, writing Habilitation Plans, and facilitating Planning Team meetings. "Assistive Technology is a HCBS (Home and Community Based Service) that provides funding for Environmental Modification (E-mod). "E-mods" are adaptations to an individual's environment that allow for more independence or addresses issues related to health and safety. Some examples are ramps, lifts, bathroom and kitchen modifications, fences, safety devices for individuals who are blind or deaf, and widened doorways and hallways."
